All about Braided Rugs

There are two types of braided rugs:

Tubular

Sold by Mass merchandisers

• Yarn braided around a shoddy fiber and or paper type core.
• Not a True Braid. Actually a tube filled with fluffy materials. Ratio of 60% tube filler with 40% surface yarns.

Flat

Sold by floor covering houses, furniture stores, better department stores, catalog houses and gift shops

• A True Braid formed around two legs of paper or in better rugs, around two legs of yarn. Usual Ratio of 70% surface yarn to 30% filler

Rhody Rug Special

A knit tube as the two inner legs forms a cushion tube within a braid. This serves as a strong sewing base for longevity, a soft under foot feel and allows rugs to be more flexible without distortion.

• We use Clearlon^® T-50: a high quality nylon monofilament thread that exceeds industry standards and offers exceptional strength and durability
• Closer the stitch, the better
• Sewing thread should be dull - not shiny, and match the braid colors
• All patterns should be straight and true
• Lines of braid should be sewn together tightly and not pull apart

• Yarns should have a Brashy, carpety feel.
• Yarns need to be tastefully blended to create an overall pattern that is harmonious and pleasant.
• Designs need to be varied to suit most tastes
• Braided rugs are a colonial item and tend to maintain a traditional value, yet choices need be offered to blend with almost any decor.

• Rugs should lie flat and not curl. - Rhody Rugs are guaranteed to lie flat. our unique core filler insures this feature.
• Good braids will feel fuller and have a nice heft to them. All stuff and no fluff is the key to a good quality durable rug.
• A rug with yarn filler will have a nice, full feel to it
• Sewn braid splices where color changes occur can be unsightly and be a point of weakness. Rhody Rug makes a seamless rug. There are no weak spots
